The end of the Cold War was supposed to end the espionage genre. Nothing could be further from the truth. In recent years the stories of spies have experienced a new boom thanks to the waste of special effects, a more critical attitude to power and an enormous quality of scripts.
Espionage has something disturbing, and more so in today’s society, in that technological advances allow our conversations to be heard and our image recorded, to unsuspected extremes.
Based on all of the above, I have selected the 10 spy movies that in recent years have stood out well for their critical, public success or for monopolizing huge amount of awards. “Skyfall”, “The mole” or “The life of others”
Red de lies (2008)
With the direction of Ridley Scott, it stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Russell Crowe and Mark Strong among others. Roger Ferris (Leonardo DiCaprio) is the best CIA agent. His work takes him from the Middle East to Washington. El topo (2011)
Film very well received by critics has the music of the Spanish Alberto Iglesias and stars Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, Tom Hardy, Mark Strong, Benedict Cumberbatch and John Hurt. The 70’s, in the middle of Cold War. The failure of a special mission in Hungary causes a change in the dome of British secret services. One of the defenestrates is agent George Smiley. However, when he had already done the idea of retiring, he was charged with a new mission: it is suspected that there is a “mole” infiltrated in the dome of the Service and only someone outside can find out who he is. With the help of other retired agents, Smiley will gather information and fit the pieces necessary to discover the traitor.

The strategy is to end the powerful mafia boss Frank Costello (Jack Nicholson) from within. The one in charge of infiltrating the band is a young rookie, Billy Costigan (Leonardo DiCaprio). While Billy tries to gain the confidence of Costello, another young policeman, Colin Sullivan (Matt Damon), quickly climbs up and occupies a position in the Special Investigations unit, an elite group whose mission is also to end Costello. What nobody knows is that Colin is a mole infiltrated in the police. .. by Costello himself.
Skyfall (2012) A
film that has the prestigious Sam Mendes in the direction and features actors Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, Javier Bardem and Ralph Fiennes among others. He won 2 Academy Oscars, for the best song and the best sound montage.
The loyalty of James Bond (Daniel Craig), the best agent of the British services, to his superior M (Judi Dench) will be put to the test when her past returns to torment her.
